After a fairly active buying and selling year in 2020, 2021 showed a bit of a slowdown, with five watches entering the collection and one leaving. Until November, it would have been two “core watches” added and one sold, along with adding the incredible $20 Nordstrom Tack Timex Marlin, but then the opportunities to obtain and try out two watches of long-term interest (a Visitor watch and a Glycine “The Chief”) presented themselves.
Wear-wise, the Aqua Terra came out on top, as I would expect. The Tudor Black Bay 36 and Longines Sector followed close behind. Late in the year, the Glycine “The Chief” took over a large number of wears as I spent more time at home with telework and vacation.
Adding the Kurono Toki was a highlight of the year, and the wears of the Black Bay 36 during a trying couple of months helped cement its place in my core collection.
Looking forward to 2022, I don’t really have any short-term goal acquistions. There are four or five watches or brands that I’d love to add to the collection someday, but they fall outside the price range likely to be added anytime soon. My prediction for 2022 would be the possible addition of two or three affordable watches that fall in the “have been interested in trying one of those for a while” category, with a similar number of sales, as those two or three spots settle into kind of an “ongoing rotation” spot in my collection. It’s also likely that, over the next year or two, I will need to start dedicating more of my watch funds toward servicing of the pieces that stay in my collection.
I’m very happy with where my collection sits entering 2022 and feel very fortunate to have been able to put together a core group of 8 or 9 watches that I always enjoy wearing.
