In the first half of 2020, the Eterna Tangaroa Moonphase rose to the top.
The stats are in for my wearing habits over the first half of 2020. Here they are in a nice little pie chart:
Of note is that the Eterna Tangaroa tied for the lead, even though it joined the collection mid-March. This is mostly because it kind of took on the role of “COVID telework watch” for me once it arrived — I just kept wanting to watch that moonphase and the rest of the dial, day after day. The increased teleworking also reduced the usual wear the Mido, Tudor, and Jazzmaster would see if I was headed into the office.
The Timex Marlin, Eterna KonTiki Adventure, and Glycine Airman all show up under the “Others” category, as they were boxed for sale in March to make way for the Tangaroa and the Intra Matic. Otherwise, the Orient Mako makes up most of the rest of the Others, in its role as a “night and weekend beater watch” for me.
The Hamilton Navy Pioneer saw its usual drop in wear due to seasonal increase in suit/tie wearing over less casual wear, and the warmth of spring means fewer jeans/sweater days, which is one place it excels.
Overall, the collection feels like it’s in a pretty good place right now. The main consideration for future changes are:
- Would love to get an Aqua Terra with the co-axial escapement. Due to price and the number of watches I would need to sell, this feels like a longer-term consolidation goal.
- I like having a Longines in the collection and the Hydroconquest gives good value, but I wouldn’t mind swapping it out for one of Longines vintage offerings (and they continue to release great options in this line).
- Overall, I’d like to reduce the total number of watches in the main collection by 1 or 2, to 6 or 7 total. But given how much I like the current watches in the collection (and the evenness of wear they are seeing), this may have to be in conjunction with the first consideration.
